Studying settlement systems with mobile positioning data
Šimbera, Jan ; Hudeček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Burian, Jaroslav (referee) ; Šveda, Martin (referee)
Settlement systems, the large-scale manifestation of the spatial organization of human society, are the frequent object of human geography studies. Mobile positioning data have been used in recent decades as a unique source on human activities in space, but robust methodologies to generate datasets from them that would be comparable in accuracy to conventional sources such as census data or travel diaries have still been lacking. This thesis aims to bridge the gap by describing in detail how to generate population distribution and commuting datasets from mobile positioning sources with the mentioned accuracy using ma- chine learning and ancillary geospatial data, including proper treatment of data privacy and artifacts inherent to mobile positioning, and to illustrate their ca- pabilities by building hierarchical settlement system models from them. Several further possible refinements are presented and discussed. 1
New concentrations of job opportunities in the hinterland of Prague
Koloušek, Petr ; Novák, Jakub (advisor) ; Ouředníček, Martin (referee)
New concentrations of job opportunities in the hinterland of Prague Abstract In the past 40-50 years in North America and is currently also in some European regions we can see within the frame of suburbanisation process creation of new centers in the hinterland of the main cities. The development of these nuclei greatly influences the spatial structure of metropolitan areas. The aim of this work is to try to identify new concentrations of job opportunities in Prague hinterland which could be described as indedependent or cutting adrift and in this respect prove certain similarity to the metropolitan regions westward of the Czech Republic. Observation will be mainly applied to the development of the number and structure of job opportunities in the selected villages. These indicators will be helpful to identify the new concentration of jobs in the Prague metropolitan area. Subsequent analysis of commuting to work in selected villages partly answers the question of how the commuting links between elements of the Prague metropolitan area have changed and whether there is a noticeable trend towards the creation of new centers, which would include also non-residential functions, such as significant offer of an employment and services. In the case study of one selected municipality will be subsequently followed up...
Time-space mobility of students in Prague
Šťástka, Jakub ; Ouředníček, Martin (advisor) ; Novák, Jakub (referee)
Šťástka, J. (2010): Time-space mobility of students in Prague. Diploma thesis, Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Science, Department of Social Geography and Regional Development, Prague. Diploma thesis deals with evaluation of time-space mobility of students in selected Prague's high schools. In introduction, research questions searching for differences in daily motions, non-daily motions of students and way of spending leisure time in a city are asked. Furthermore, this thesis is aimed at discussion of time-space mobility within Czech and foreign literature and approach to study of everyday-life. The main objective of this diploma thesis is to analyze everyday mobility of students in Prague and to document their correlation on the basis of data from questionary survey. key words: time-space mobility, everyday rythm, lifestyle, commuting, suburbanization, leisure time, students, Prague.
Socio-geographical regionalization of Benesov district in 2001-2011 and the impact of work attractiveness of Prague on its changes
Pešek, Ondřej
Commuting became an inseparable part of everyday life of contemporary society and an analysis of commuting flows has a fundamental meaning for capturing social- geographical organization of society. The main object of this thesis is to identify changes in geographical aspects of commuting to work and school in the Benešov district during the period 2001-2011. The second object is to evaluate the impact of macroregional centre of Prague on the commuting in Benešov district. The district is, taking into consideration the nearness and a good traffic connesction to Prague, appropriate example for assessing the impact of macroregional centre on neighbouring micro-regions. This impact is followed by an analysis of commuting flows and also by a questionnare survey. The purpose of the questionnare survey is to capture how people feel about commuting to work and labour market in Prague. Keywords: commuting, socio-geographical regionalization, macro-region, micro- region, functional region, Benesov, Prague, Vlasim, Votice.

Commuting flow intensity in the functional region of Prague: comparing census and cellphone signalling data
Málek, Jakub ; Šimbera, Jan (advisor) ; Netrdová, Pavlína (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with mobile location data and compares them with censal data. It investigates in three different cases the meaningful value of mobile location data at the level of basic units of settlement in Prague and its surroundings. Part of the work is comparison and cartographic processing of population distribution. The thesis also deals with the processing of daily rhythms of four Prague areas using mobile data and comparison of mobile and censual data on the case of commuting flows to basic unit of settlement Vysoké školy. In the results, mobile data proved to be worthwhile for surface analyzes. However, the value and spatial inaccuracies were assessed as insufficient for detailed research at the level of basic units of settlement. Keywords: mobile data, mobility, daily rhythms, commuting

Phenomenon of Forest Kindergarten: Case Study - Prague 6
Vostradovská, Barbora ; Jíchová, Jana (advisor) ; Pospíšilová, Lucie (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with forest kindergartens, which represent an alternative to traditional kindergartens and can be seen as a new institutional phenomenon in pre-school education. The topic is grounded in the theoretical framework of time geography and mobility, with emphasis on the concept of constraints. Case study is carried out in the city district of Prague 6 compares the users (parents) of forest kindergartens and traditional kindergartens. It monitors the diversity of spatial daily mobility - commuting and different socio-demographic characteristics of users in both types of institutions. During field research the techniques used for data collection were semi-structured interviews and questionnaires. This case study confirmed differences between users, mainly in the willingness to commute further and their relationship to the environment. Keywords: forest kindergarten - kindergarten - commuting - users - Prague 6
THE INFLUENCE OF TRANSPORT ACCESSIBILITY ON COMMUTING TO WORK INTO POPULATION CENTRES IN THE SOUTH BOHEMIAN REGION
MATEJOVÁ, Vlasta
This Bachelor´s thesis analyses the aggregate and job-related commuting rates into population centres in the South Bohemian region as well as the time accessibility into the selected regions by car transport. This analysis utilises data from population census 2011 to investigate the spatial organisation of the South Bohemian region. The selection of the centres for sociogeographic regionalization is based on the methods of L. Sýkora, M. Hampl and M. Halás. Application of three differing methods results in the elimination of the fragmented spatial structure as well as the smallest centres from the analysis. The second part of the analytical chapter deals with the monitoring of time accessibility into selected regions. The theoretical part, preceeding the analytical section, deals with the theoretical processing of transport accessibility, job-related commuting and the determination of hypotheses. The next chapter is devoted to the methodology and data sources.
